Pressing Issue

I've gone through two rather pricey irons since 2005. (Don't you love the title pun?! :D)

The first was a Rowenta that worked perfectly for a few years until the water reservoir ruptured causing it to slobber all over everything. I sent it on to Jonathan who was ironless. He said it quit heating pretty shortly after that.

The next was a Shark. I had heard good things about it. It quit while Jonathan was ironing a pair of pants. (Jonathan has moved back home temporarily.) I told him where the two old irons were located and to use the Black & Decker because the GE has a frazzled cord.

The B&D still worked, but just did not get hot enough IMHO. Frazzled cord and all, I plugged the GE in and turned it on. It got hot quick. Jonathan told me to get the Shark, which I fished out of the trash. He needed screwdrivers and a pair of pliers. Working together we took the cord off the Shark and put it on the GE.

I LOVE IT!

 

It was a wedding gift in 1971. It is still as hot as it was when new. Does a beautiful job on 100% cotton curtains. Made in the USA! Built to last. :D

OH! Is this considered VINTAGE?! LOL

Not Even ONE Stitch!

I haven't quilted a single stitch yet! I subbed at high school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Watched American Idol, then the Olympics while I did a bit of knitting on that knit along that I've flunked out on. I finally got all the stitches for the front and back cast on the circular needle but am still working on the lower ribbing. I told y'all. I'm slow!

I didn't work today, but Sam did...and yesterday too...helping his brother Elton with texturing and priming in the apartment Elton and Carol are working on. (They've lived in an Avion travel trailer since August 2008. The apartment is the next step on their journey to building a farm house.)

So. After Sam left, I walked into my sewing room to start quilting. Looked at my big desk chair and thought...SHOPPING! I went to Longview and bought a smaller "task" chair. I'm not sure I'm going to put the arms on it...I might and if they get in my way, I can always take them off.

Here's my desk chair in it's usual location. LOL I can reach around behind me and touch the other chair. At least I have a second chair for when Sam comes in and visits me. And I'm sure you noticed the clutter...things are just about back to normal.

I made a stop at Hancock Fabrics. All sewing notions, buttons, etc. were 50% off. Couldn't resist these. I need to get back to my crazy quilt blocks and finish them.

After Olive Garden...;o)...I made a stop at Sears and purchased a new canister vacuum. Got so tired of pushing that upright. I didn't realize how much work it was until I ran the canister this evening. I might vacuum more than once every other month now. AND sooo much more QUIET! I get lazy and instead of running the dustmop over the tile, I vacuum it. The old Hoover was LOUD!

Back at school tomorrow...ta-ta!

My NEW Room

This is it so far. Got a lot more stuff to store and put away. Sam cut the left L off the corner desk and attached it on the right...and...made a drop-deck for my sewing machine! He saved the cutout and fixed it so that it would drop back in the hole for when I add the embroidery attachment. I am soooo excited! Edited:
Sandy, The floors are Bruce laminated hardwood, Gunstock color. And, yes, Sam built a box under the desk...that's what you see in the photo. I'll take more photos and post later.

Karen, The frame is a Hinterberg. I bought the Easy Built Kit. http://www.hinterberg.com/prod-Easy_Build_Kit-7.aspx Sam bought three lengths of conduit and a long board then put it together. Best I remember, cost was about $100 total. I really, really like it!

First Things First

The memorial service for Mrs. W was beautiful! The previous night, the family had asked for remembrances. Many were short and sweet, a few were eloquent. When the officiant, a nephew of Mrs. W's finished reading the very last remembrance...an extremely beautiful tribute to Mrs. W, I thought..."End of service. NOTHING else needed." Of course, he continued. My mind wandered as I thought about the large family and numerous friends that this dear lady had. I gazed through the leaded glass window of the chapel. I really didn't hear much of anything else that he said. Nancy's tribute was enough.

OH! As you entered the chapel, a table had been set up with photos. Covering the table was one of Mrs. W's quilts! AND, instead of the usual blanket of flowers on the casket, another of her quilts was spread. Much, MUCH better!

I was so tired when I got home after working the library all day. But I made a bee-line to my sewing room. (I took photos the previous day, but they had disappeared off the camera card. totododo-totododo They showed the floor laid but without the quarter-round.)

This is what I saw! Quarter-round installed!! Sam had also filled the tiny nail holes. We - probably he since I'm working all week - will prime, then paint the quarter-round to match the baseboards. That's why the paper is there...to protect the floor from the primer and paint.

Surprise!

BFF - since fifth grade - Earlene's mother died early Sunday morning. Mrs. W was such a sweet lady and at age 88 or so still lived alone. Until... She still went DANCING! Her ride was there to pick her up. Just as she got to the car, she fell, hit the concrete and broke her arm. To the hospital...to the nursing home for rehab. And should I mention that at her age, the rehab was minimum...if next to nothing. She never returned home. Her outlook and over all health deteriorated.

BFF is the librarian at our small public library. I am her sub. So after working all day yesterday (Monday), I arrive home, and see carpet and padding rolled up in the garage! The table saw is there too. I stuck my head in my sewing room. This is what I saw! When Sam picked me up for lunch, I asked what he'd been doing. "Piddling." In your shop? "No. Didn't want to turn the heat on up there just to 'piddle' around."

I'm almost certain he is spending the day "piddling" around again. YIPPEE!!

It's SNOWING!

So sorry to those of you who have waaaay more than you ever wanted, but this is only the second dusting I've seen in about 15 years. The first one since moving back to northeast Texas didn't even keep me from going in to my sub job at high school...and was gone before noon. I am going to enjoy this as long as it lasts.The worst part will be first thing in the morning when the roads are frozen and covered with black ice. But us smart people simply stay home. If it's not gone Friday, it will be gone Saturday. When Carol saw my pizza peel, she asked, "Where's mine." Here! Sam is doing better. You can see the improvement between mine on the left and hers on the right. I got my flooring! It has to sit and acclimatize for 72 hours. In the meantime, I have to clean out the floor of my closet...and move out the furniture and 'stuff' in my sewing room. It's gonna be a loooong end of week and weekend.
