More Goodies!
A quilting friend told me about a quilter she knew who was going to radically downsize her quilting supplies. Sam and I got up this morning and headed that way. It was mind boggling! I need to go back again. I bought the buttons for crazy quilting. $2.50 for all of these.
A few close up...
Then, of course, a bit of fabric. Those two pieces in the top left...I am so surprised at myself for purchasing those. Each piece is 3-4 yards. I picked it up...put it down. And as you can see, finally came home with it. There's also some Orientals, a few Christmas pieces, a couple of batiks, the handkerchief piece and a couple of panels.
Here's the McKenna Ryan patterns I won on I Have a Notion blog. See the autograph at the top left?! ;o)
And, I won ANOTHER giveaway! I am amazed. I need to run out and purchase a lottery ticket! LOL Karen at Quilts, Etc. hosted a giveaway. I won! Be back later. The lottery ticket is calling my name...

Home From Cozumel Cruise
Wouldn't you know it?! The very first photo I took was the carpet in one of the
'clubs'. LOL Wouldn't this make a neat quilt?!!
Here are the other three as we leave Galveston.
Our photo with the night's entertainment, Diane Ford who made several appearances on Tool Time. We went to one of the early shows...didn't care to go to the 10 or 11 p.m. 'adult' content shows.
Dress up night. We sailed on the Carnival Ecstasy. This was a rather laid-back cruise. Only one tux was seen. No formals. So we fit right in with our sparkly tops. The two 'real' sisters, Earlene and Beckle.
Me, the shoulda been sister, and Nancy, who was actually 'adopted' by Mrs. Wilson.
Yeah. I know. The backwoods sisters go to town. We took photos of our food. Duck breast appetizer. good
Mahi mahi. dry
Standing on the dock at Cozumel waiting while the port authorities there showed that they could hold us up even longer.
Our excursion. A 100 foot deep submarine ride.
No anxiety here! We actually went to 121 feet...but that photo is on Earlene's camera.
Shrimp cocktail appetizer. good
Flat iron steak cooked medium. very good Earlene had one a night or two earlier cooked medium well and Beckle's was well done. They said that theirs was tough. Mine wasn't.
Bitter and white. OH MY GOODNESS! I thought from the description that this was bittersweet chocolate pudding swirled with white chocolate pudding. It was more of a bread pudding. The waiter poured the sauce on top. After a bite or two, I spooned the shaved chocolates into the dish and they melted in. I repeat, OH MY!
Even though I was also taking photos, I think Earlene enjoyed the photo opportunities as well as the meal! LOL Most of the cakes were dry. This was the first, a sugar-free coconut cake, that wasn't too dry to eat. Uh-huh!
Caught 'em in the casino!!
Actually, we were in the casino the first night. Earlene, Beckle, and Nancy lost a few dollars...and I do mean a few. I don't enjoy the gambling scene at all. Only did the one-armed bandits once. Sigh...what a bore. Lost my $20 then and never went back. The truth of this photo...we were sitting around waiting for the next go-to item on our itinerary when I remembered a sign in the casino...a deck of cards for $1. I got mine. Then the three others lined up too. We sat at a table and played cards...
When we got on the ship Thursday, Beckle said, "Wouldn't it be funny if we saw someone we know?" We met people from as nearby as Mt. Pleasant....20-25 miles from home. Sunday evening,..Beckle saw someone she knew!
Monday morning sunrise in Galveston harbor.
More photos may follow after I get Earlene's...

Water
First, the doctor told Mama that she was evidently scratching in her sleep. eyeroll He wasn't the least bit worried. She said he also turned her every which way but loose and said everything looked fine. Thank God!
Next...
Ooooh! At the top of the post!!
How about the color of water?
The bluebonnets are all mine!
I went to a different car wash the other day.
My sister-in-law, Carol was with me and almost rolled her eyes when I pulled the camera out. Yeah. I know. I have no life. ;o)
Really, I DO! I'll be gone this weekend on a 5-day cruise to Cozumel. With three friends!
Sam will have to hold down the fort by himself.

Mixed News
Yesterday Sam and I visited his son and girlfriend. Elton and Carol went along with us. John and Erin are remodeling an A-frame house on Lake Texoma. The third floor was never finished, so they are turning that into a master 'suite' (as much as the 3rd floor on an A-frame can be) and putting in bracing that was left out when the house was built. He said doors are not only opening correctly now, but are staying shut when closed.
They are living in a garage converted into a game room...dry bar, pool table, bodacious stereo, sofa sleeper...NO WATER. So they trek across the driveway and up to the second level of the A-frame to the only functioning bathroom on the property.
I stuffed the fish
(remember, it's a cat bed/toy) into a white kitchen trash bag. The bag was short so the tail stuck out. We walked into their temporary abode. I started pulling the fish out of the bag. John looked funny. I asked if they could guess what it was. Erin looked funny. She looked at John...John looked at her. I thought, "Oh, no! All that work (and incidental cussing) and it's going to be stuck in a closet!" I explained what it was and they both smiled. Okaaaaay.
We walked through the mess in the house then went to eat at a water-side diner on the lake. Before the food came, John had some news. We're all thinking "MARRIAGE." Nope. Erin is having a baby in November. Even though John described it as a 'peanut with a heartbeat,' Erin said, "It's a girl. My family has girls." She has a sister...her sister has two daughters. John, of course, says it's a boy.
Later we women were sitting around talking. John had seen the printed fabric through the white bag. He wondered what was going on because they just this past Tuesday decided to start telling everyone about the pregnancy...and here I walk in with what looked like could be a baby toy/something. Erin wondered if John had already told us since they'd made the decision to tell us in person, not on the telephone. So they were both wondering what the other had done. LOL Then, Erin repeated something Elton said that rather skimmed past the rest of us..."You can always stack diapers in it." THAT really had both of them wondering what we knew and who had told!
While we were visiting after lunch, Carol got a phone call. Her 96-year old mother was sent to the hospital with pneumonia. Not good. Before we stopped for supper, she received a call that her mother was responding to medication. She's still not out of the woods, of course. Carol will leave for Granbury this morning for a few days.
Mama goes on Wednesday not Monday to have her mole checked out. I generally try to drive her to her doctors' visits but won't be able to on Wednesday. I've got some clothes to wash Monday for an upcoming trip that I leave on Thursday, but I will be seeing her as much as possible these next three days before I leave.
Have I mentioned...I'm going on a girlfriend cruise! Out of Galveston to Cozumel and back. Four of us. In one room. We are going to have a blast!

Mama and a Mole
My mother has a suddenly really nasty looking mole on her head. She just mentioned it to me today. It is red with an ugly jagged edge and looks, as I've already mentioned, really nasty! I asked her why she was just now mentioning it and why hadn't she let one of her friends look at it. The answer, she just noticed it this week...it hurts to brush her hair so she hasn't. She has an appointment at the doctor bright and early Monday morning. I'll be driving her.

Outside - Mostly
Yesterday I went to the Ag department plant sale and bought two ferns...Mondo I think...and two mother-in-law's tongue/snake plant/sanseveria to replace the two I over watered this winter. (Story here...I divided my plants last fall and took what I didn't keep to the high school ag department. So, I bought some of my own plants back. LOL)
The ferns are perfect!
The water hose snaking across the yard is going out to the live oaks. I'm going to have to take some photos in the morning before the late afternoon sun bleaches out the colors.
This batch of bluebonnets runs alongside the driveway down by the road.
The third and final variety of daffodils are blooming.
I made these cute bags after lunch today.
The pattern is called Origami. I had three different sets of instructions so made one bag per instruction. I do have my favorite...the bug bag. I'll probably make some more. We are having a family gathering at my house Memorial Day weekend. The grand nieces would probably like them.
The ferns are perfect!

Book and Bread
After our trip to the Hielands ;o) outside of Minden, Sam and I talked about Haggis. I picked up this cookbook at the Friends of the Daingerfield Public Library book sale a few years ago.
I've never made anything out of it even though I do have two scones recipes that we really like. I can assure you that I won't be making Haggis.

How about Tossed Nettles? The Leek Pie does sound good. And using zucchini in the Marrow recipe sounds like it would work.
This artisan bread recipe is not in the cookbook,
but it was delicious for lunch.
LOL! I looks like a ham doesn't it? I didn't have enough cornmeal on the peel and had a bit of trouble sliding it onto the pizza stone in the oven. Still tasted good!

Gathering of the Clans
Sam and I really enjoyed the Scottish Tartan Festival yesterday! I saw a brief blurb on the local news earlier in the week, checked it out on the internet, and forwarded the information to Sam with a "Let's do this!" So, we did! We enjoyed the music, the dance, the food...Even though Sam thought the portions were small and stopped in Waskom TX for dessert...which became a full-fledged meal of salad, catfish, fries...with not even two hours passed since he ate lunch. LOL
Opening ceremony:
Scottish Sword Dance:
Notice the Irish dancers, watching her footwork.
The Jackson (Mississippi) Irish dancers:
Yes, the little once danced, too.
Roll call of the clans:

Scottish Hieland cow:
I have a varied Celtic heritage. Irish on my mother's side: Field and Phillips. Irish on my dad's side: Griffith. And Scottish on my dad's side: Glasgow. The Glasgow's were not highland Scots so therefore have no tartan. However the town of Glasgow developed a tartan back in 1992.
Or I could wear the Texas Bluebonnet tartan designed in 1989.
Both are registered in Scotland. I REALLY like that Texas Bluebonnet Tartan!!!
